Brief
To design a set of three cycle displays for Evans Cycles London Bridge Christmas 2016 window. The bikes must be suspended within the displays and showcase each of the bikes features. We were asked to embrace Evans Cycles Christmas slogan THE BEST KIDS' BIKES EVER. The challange was to work within the narrow constraints of the curved window and still provide an impactful set of displays, designed to attract the large footfall of potential customers walking past the store on their way in and out of the city.
To design a set of three cycle displays for Evans Cycles London Bridge Christmas 2016 window. The bikes must be suspended within the displays and showcase each of the bikes features. We were asked to embrace Evans Cycles Christmas slogan THE BEST KIDS' BIKES EVER. The challange was to work within the narrow constraints of the curved window and still provide an impactful set of displays, designed to attract the large footfall of potential customers walking past the store on their way in and out of the city.
Execution
I focused on creating a suitable way of housing the bikes securely within a set of displays. I created a strong circular internal structure from (Allison board) a 10mm thick honeycomb board, designed to add strength and rigidity to POS displays. This was then wrapped inside and out with printed E/Flute corrugated. A high intensity white LED light strip was fixed onto the inside of the circular display, to illuminate the bikes in low light conditions. The bikes were wedged into the circular displays, by removing the front wheels to allow them to be inserted into the walls of the displays. The front wheels were then re attached, creating a secure housing for the bikes. Finally the circular displays were placed on angled plinths following the slope of the window.
Reaction
The initial reaction from the store manager and store staff was that they could immediately see the impact and interest that the displays were creating from passers by. They were confident that the illuminated displays would attract people into the store and were excited that the displays would also work effectively and provide good visability in the fading light at the end of the day, when potential customers would be heading home from work.
